WHAT IS ALPHA?
WHY ARE WE DOING IT?
Alpha is an wonderful outreach program designed to explore the basics of Christian faith and life in a friendly, welcoming context. It began over 40 years ago as a new members’ class at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in London. Since then, it has spread across the world and is offered in several languages. Over 28,000,000 people have experienced Alpha, and we invite you to “come and see” it for yourself at St. Alban’s.
The Rev. Nicky Gumbel, the Church of England priest who began this course says this about it: “Alpha works because people enjoy it. They have a great evening and make friends. At the same time, they deal with very real issues that everyone has to face in their life: Is Jesus really who He claimed to be – the Son of God? What happens when we die? Can we trust the Bible’s message? How can we find real meaning in our lives? These are the kind of questions that everyone thinks about, but there are not many places where you can really go and discuss them freely. Alpha offers us that kind of place: to seek, to question, and to grow.”
The Alpha course is for everyone – longtime church-goers, newcomers, and especially, people with questions. In fact, asking questions is positively encouraged! It’s a great opportunity to “make sense” of the Christian faith, and to have fun at the same time.
The Alpha course will be on Wednesday evenings beginning September 18th from 6:00–7:00 PM, (following the 5:30 PM worship service.) You’re invited – please join us!
