Looking Forward

September is here – the month when, in normal times, in-person school and church programming resumes, the trees begin to change color, and the shortening days and first chilly nights remind us of the transition from summer into fall.

As we all know, this year has been anything but normal. Despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, we have some good things to celebrate at St. Alban’s. Our Sunday 10AM and Wednesday 6PM outdoor worship services have been wonderful! It is encouraging to have so many of our members participating in these gatherings. They go a long way to strengthen faith and uphold a sense of community in our parish. We will continue to have outdoor worship as long as the weather permits (and you know how I enjoy cool weather …). We will also continue to prepare the weekly Order of Worship for Use at Home and Church, and post a recording of the Sunday Gospel and sermon online.

I would also like to thank everyone who has continued to support our church financially. Our parish expenses remain the same despite the pandemic, and your dedication to our parish is much appreciated!

Some other good news to share is that we are planning special events for the next few months at St. Alban’s, including the following: 

  • Our annual Blessing of the Animals Service on Sunday, October 4 th at 3PM 

  • The resumption of W.O.W. for all ages with Calvary Lutheran Church, (Format to be determined in light of COVID-19 protocols) 

  • A possible winter greens sale in December (in lieu of other fundraisers that we cannot have) 

  • Outdoor celebrations of All Saints Day (November 1) and Christmas Eve (December 24), subject to weather conditions

Despite the constrictions that the Coronavirus may have on our lives, I hope that you will participate in all the ways that we continue to be a source of faith, hope, and community.

Yours faithfully in Christ,

Rev. John Peters, Rector
